I was very grateful and flattered when the lighting company, Nanlux, reached out to me with the offer of a sponsorship. They had been following my work as a freelance filmmaker in Korea, as well as my international projects, and got in touch to let me know that they would like to send me one of their 650c units for use on any of my cinematographer jobs. In return, the only thing they asked of me was to send them photos of the light in action on set from time to time. This was really nice of them!
Unboxing was a lot of fun and I was immediately impressed with the build quality and ergonomics of the light.
The unit has incredible output, can create any imaginable colour, and allows for a lot of creative possibilities. It also comes with a softbox adapter, several layers of attachable diffusion, and egg crate grid which is great for controlling the light in various ways.
I didn’t own a combo stand so I had to pick one up to support the heavy weight of the light but these are relatively cheap.
So far I have been really pleased with the results from the unit and have been able to use it in conjunction with the other LED lights I own on several projects.
The fact that the light gives so much output relative to its size is really great for smaller teams or productions with limited transport space as it packs a lot of punch. In the short time that I have owned the 650c, I have been able to use it to great effect on commercial, documentary and corporate jobs, and I am very much looking forward to using it on music videos or other similar projects that allow for more colourful use of lighting.
The unit’s rated power it 650W (hence the name), it has a CCT range of 2700-20000K, and an average CRI of 95.
Nanlux did not ask me to write this post as part of the sponsorship, I just wanted to as I am so grateful to them for providing me with such a great piece of equipment that I know I will use for many years to come!
